  2. Badri, your predictions have enjoyed the reputation of turning out the exact opposite. I am glad we now know what will happen to our economy. ;)

  4. Indian Politicians, Stock Brokers and other analysts who ever it may be never admit that our economy is going down etc......

As on date Euro debt problem, U.S political conflict between Republicans and Democrats as per Geitner is the major issue.

China's manufacturing index down for the past 6 consecutive months.

If it goes like this our IT and other industries (who depends on foreign money) has to suffered a lot and it affect all others too.

  5. Market fluctuations won't affect India as only a handful of players there(may be 2%).In general, may be this is somewhat good for Indian public as oil prices would come down( I don't why it is hovering at $83 a barrel). Developed economies would get a shaft of deflation and anemic growths or no growths.I concur with you as inflation would come down a bit but we have to wait and see.IT and service sectors would take a hit that may cause a little housing crisis in cities.

  6. It looks like you don't believe in Efficient Market Hypothesis. By the way, gold price has tumbled during the last two days.

  7. Bharath: My prediction is for a two year period. Two day fluctuations are to be ignored.

Please explain more on Efficient Market hypothesis.

  8. Badri: According to Efficient Market Hypothesis we cannot predict the prices of assets such as stocks or gold as the market is very efficient. The prices already reflect all the available information, and there is no correlation between the current and past prices(y(t)=a+Y(t-1)+e,as you can see there is no coefficient for y(t-1),if there is a correlation then the equation would like like y(t)=a+b.y(t-1)+e).
Attempting to predict the movement of a stock market is like trying the predict the steps of a drunken man. This is the reason, according to some, why some of the hedge funds started by the winners of Noble price in economics failed. This is why some economists suggest that investing in a low cost ETF(one that tracks a broad index) is better than investing in a managed mutual find(stocks are picked by experts). The performance of a managed mutual fund would be similar to that of the performance of an ETF. Of course, there are some who don't believe in this theory. They argue that bubbles in the stock market such as the one that occurred in late 90s suggest that after all the market is not efficient.
Regarding the gold price, the following graph might scare people who want to invest in gold now. It cannot keep going up. It is interesting to note what happened to the gold price in early 80s.

  9. In past the indication of deep recession, will be indicated by a small friction before.
I guess 2008 was such a one & its main hit will be in 2011 end or 2012. May be there are chances to return to brenton-woods concept exchange on gold as euro & dollar may become little nvaluable. Many europeans feel EURO may not exist in the upcoming years. $ may also face such a situation. Gold will take up a major position in the coming era. In economy, a drift or stagnant happens when purchasing power & productivity widens. The developed nations which had their main concern about finance or investing, missed to make as many concern in productivity. So I guess the economy will keep falling more in the upcoming 2 years, until making up of as many productivity concerns.
